I have had lots of my PAYG mobile phones unlocked over the years, the shop I use is opposite our local police station and they openly advertise the service on a sandwich board outside the shop...if it was illegal then i'm sure it would have been stamped out by now. I'm not sure where you would stand with unlocking a contract phone though.
From what I can work out unlocking a phone only voids the warranty should it need to be returned. It's unadvisable to have a contract phone unlocked prior to the contract expiring for this reason. PAYGO no problem.
how can it be illegal when there are shops all over the place advertising phone unlocking, with big posters in windows,I had one unlocked on the market and the only thing he asked me was , was it mine, was it stolen, or had it been found
Mobile phone unlocking is not to be confused with mobile phone unblocking. Unblocking a handset is in fact ILLEGAL. Anyone carrying this proceedure out can face a large fine and the distinct possibility of doing porridge at her Majesties Pleasure. A handset only becomes blocked when it has been reported stolen by the legitimate owner.
im no expect on mobiles unblocking or unlocking, and even if one these practises is illegal, ui dont think anyone goes to prison for doing this to one phone only, maybe mobile phone store who trade in stolen phones and lillegal unblocking , would recieve a fine, but for one phone only , not much would happen to a person.....
