why on earth were the announcements at the closing ceremony made in French then in English?
According to the Times the official language of the majority of the countries who won gold medals was English, thought the closing ceremony was great, but the French announcements really irked me.

French is the official language of the modern Olympics.
It's to do with de Coubertin, or whatever his name was. Come on the French don't have much to shout about.................
