Discontinuing breast feeding

How can i avoid getting really painful breasts after discontiuning breast feedign what is the best way to deal with this?

Express milk when you feel very full and gradually you will have to do this less, it took a couple of weeks, but my mum sucseffully did this and found it less painful than when she stopped feeding me (she just stopped)

Not sure if it's the norm- but like boob's mum (boob's name sounds so wrong in this context-lol) I just stopped, was slightly painful for a day or two but then soon settled to normal without needing to do anything at all.

I expressed using a pump for three days or so, lengthening the time between pumps by not pumping until absolutely necessary. They flippin kill, don't they?

I personally was expressing for my little boy as he was too prem to breastfeed and as he had very small amounts of milk, i wasnt expressing a lot, and then it just suddenly stopped, but even that was painful :-(

Nice hot flannels help, and hand expressing I think eases the pain but doesn't stimulate as much milk as a pump,

by the time I stopped breast feeding, my wee guy was 17mnths old and so only on a wee bedtime feed. I just stopped, and it was no problem at all. got a wee bit full after about 3 days, but it dissipated quickly with the help of some gentle massage. I think if you go from full on feeding to zilcho, you would need to just express as little as possible to ease the discomfort. If you express too much, the brain will think you still need to produce milk, so only express if you really have to.

When I stopped I did it 1 feed at a time, 1 feed a week, and it didn't hurt - my boobs just gradually deflated. I think mine would have exploded if i'd done it all in one go!
