Dogs
Does anyone think that there is any truth in the saying that when a dog's nose is warm it is not very well?
our dogs nose has been warm for over a fortnight and my wife thinks there is something wrong. He is an eleven year old collie and to me he seems OK, but now I'm beginning to worry because although he's quite happy on his walks, he does 'seem' to be a bit lethargic and is quite happy when he knows he's on his way home (or is it my imagination now she's put an idea in my head). I'm quite happy to take him to the vets but I don't want to be lumbered a big bill if its not necessary.

If he's eating normally, then I'd suggest that the warm nose is just a coincidence. At 11 years old he's the equivalent of late 70s in human terms and will only want a sedate stroll nowadays anyway.
No, unless he's showing some signs of distress he's probably alright and as you rightly point out, a visit to the vet will not come cheaply and will probably result in nothing more than a cursory check over of your beloved mutt followed by a substantial charge.
