The anti - semitism argument blew over very quickly when it was found that the accusations came from right wing ultra conservative Jews who had an agenda of their own. The consensus was that the Gospel (and therefore the film) is open to interpretation and those wishing to claim anti-semitism found much to back up the anti Judaism argument. The more liberal minded Jews agreed that the film wasnt anti-semitic, but as with the Gospels, it could be interpreted that way. i didnt find it anti-semitic but then again i'm not a Jew. Self indulgent and flawed, yes - but i thought it was a powerful film.
