School shoes

Has anyone bought school shoes on line (and had a good experience)? I can't face forking out £200+ in Clarks :( Thanks.

I bought mine from BHS and occasionally asda, I cannot stand clarks, very expensive shoes that the kids grow out of too quickly

I have bought them from Asda before but I find their smaller sizes are not a very nice shape. We have limited shops here in Hereford (it is a bit Hicksville). We have very cheap shoe shops, Clarks, M & S or the supermarkets (and it is the thought of going with them all and trying them on too that is putting me off). Did have a look at the Kickers site but they are about £50 a pair.

I've bought new Clarks shoes for #1 on there for half the price of shops.

Thanks 2sp, just had a quick look and there are loads. Will take them to get their feet measured (unless I can find a way of doing it at home) and I will get ordering.

I get my son's shoes from either JJB, Sports Direct or M and M sports. He is in men's sizes though so easier to buy (but way more expensive :( ).

I work for an independent family run shoe shop and the amount of people that complain about clarks is UNREAL...couldn't fit kids shoes to save themselves. I'd say come see me and i'd give you a cheeky discount (just don't tell my boss 0:) )

Start-rite allow you to get a print out of a measure on their website sherrard....might help and you should always allow for a thumb space (doesn't sound much) for growing room and start-rite shoes have a full size built into all their shoes

LOL can't be that bad sherrard....i've seen more than my fair share of awkward feet and unruly kids...i can cope quite well :)

This takes me back to the days when as a schoolboy I had a Saturday job in Lennards, then a national shoe shop chain. If a customer walked out of the shop without buying anything, then you were in deep trouble. It was drilled into me that if we were out of a certain size, say size 7, then we had to offer the customer a size 6, saying it was a "broad fit", alternatively a size 8, saying it was a "narrow fit".

This takes me back to when my daughter was primary age, taking a ticket in Clarks like a deli and waiting for hours to get served.

Our local Clarks is manic, so pleased I have been given ideas on how to avoid it (I usually just get their feet measured there and get the shoes elsewhere).

I always used to get my son's feet measure in a Clark's shop and then go to a Clark's outlet shop were they are loads cheaper! What about Brantana?

Brilliant - I can get their backpacks and plimsolls (sp) from Sports direct too! I can tick more things of my (horredously long) list.

Thanks for that but am virtually sorted on the shoe front now - 2 pairs of plimsolls, 1 pair of trainers, 5 pairs of school shoes (only 1 pair don't fit but he will grow into them) and 3 backpacks for £75 including delivery (and I didn't have to actually take them to a shop!).
