Minor injury clinic or not????

My boys were having a carry-on this morning whilst they were supposed to be getting ready for Out of School care - and the elder one (age 12) has manged to bash the heel of his foot on the wooden door frame (I believe he was pulling his foot back ready to kick his brother!) anyway he tore about an inch long tear in the skin which was flapped over and I flapped it back and applied a Hydrocolloid dressing. There was only a tiny bit of bleeding as you would expect with the location

He obv couldn't go to OSC as they were going on a trip and he can wear any shoes and says he can't walk on it so I am now at home with him and laying on the sofa he is hopping about to the toilet.

I've looked at it without removing the dressing and I can see that there is a fair bit of bruising around it and the plaster seems to have bubbled up a bit too. he still says it is too painful and wont let me touch it and says he cant walk. he s however a bit of a drama king.

Is it worth going up to minor injuries to have them check it do you think?

yes, i would. the wound needs checking and may need redoing - possibly with a larger dressing to cushion over the heel. he needs to keep it clean and dry and rest as much as possible (v. hard for a 12yr old, i know!!!) and not get the dressing wet or mess around on it. if he does, he'll end up with a nasty, infected heel.

I would, annie. Best not to take any chances, just in case it does become infected.

well, strangely enough when we were getting ready to go, all of a sudden he could walk on it after all!! Still looks bruised but i think i'll let it be for a day and see what it is like in the morning. Thanks for your help everybody. 1st sunny day here in ages too :(

i would go jsut in case.......he could of chipped a bone or fractured it...better safe than sorry

thanks firewatch - foot is a lot better - we have switched to a normal plaster and just keeping it dry - it's a nasty one though. Hope it heals fast as I have his school shoes here waiting to be tried on and it's also a bit tying when all he can wear is backless sandals.
