Glasses problem

Recently our glasses have developed a white bloom when used in the dishwasher. We are using a top grade tablet and finishing solution. Is there a way to stop this happening and can we restore our glass back to a shine. Thanks for any advice.

I'm afraid your glasses are ruined :(

No matter what thea dverts say about their dishwasher tablet/powder being gentle on your glassware, they inevitably get ruined.

You should probably get some new glasses in the January sales and stick to handwashing them

was going to post the same thing! oddly cheaper glass is better to put in a dishwasher than more expensive because it has a lower lead content and is less susceptible to being etched by the caustic dishwasher detergent...sorry about the bad news!

Woofgang is so right about the cheaper glasses!

I bought a pack of 12 glasses from Ikea and put them in the dishwasher regularly and they have not been affected whatsoever.

I know this doesn't help you now though :(

I'm afraid we've grown lazy with glasses over the years. If they won't survive the dishwasher, they don't get used, so the crystal ones stay in the cabinet except for posh dinner parties when they're washed by hand. . Everyday glasses are so cheap now that it's probably better just to take the hit when they eventually become bloomed, discard them and replace. I once tried soaking some bloomed glasses in a mild vinegar solution overnight. . It improved them mildly but a faint bloom still remained.

I bought the glasses 2 summers ago and have rarely hand washed them and they have never gone cloudy yet, yet my good wine galsses did. That's weird that yours did :s

My colleague swears that if you put dishwasher salt in the dishwasher powder compartment and wash teh glasses the white stuff disappears. I haven't tried this myself.
