There are seven unclued lights - 1, 30 and 37 across, 1, 5, 10 and 16 Down
Hi angus, 6 unclued lights have something in common; the seventh unclued light (37) has nothing in common with the other 6. My grid is complete, but I can't for the life of me find the concealed item. I have tried looking horizontally, vertically and diagonally in both directions, but to no avail. Could someone perhaps tell me where it starts?

Thanks as ever to DJA!
HELVETICUS - 37a is the 37 referred to in the preamble (thus eliminating one of the alternatives)
I'm at the same stage as you searching, searching...!

Thanks as always Daniel!
Found it helveticus - it's on the bottom line and it's a synonym for the 3rd word of the saying
One for the golfers maybe.

Thanks DJA
Hi roslyn251354, many thanks! The concealed item was a new word to me so I did not twig even when it was staring me straight in the face; I must try to remember it for Scrabble...
Many thanks Daniel as usual. This gave early challenges but started to flow once I'd established what "37" was all about. I think it was masterful of the setter to organise the clues so as to give the final part of the quotation so clearly!
Thanks again, Daniel! Off to a flying start, for a change.
Thanks very much DJA ...

Having no ODQ Googled for the quote ...only to find after staring at 37 for a while it was right in front of me .
Very clever !
shaneystar, exactly the same with me!
Lol....whatsthat ..I usually groan when I see it's Columba and his jumbles but this one was a treat .Very clever puzzle .
Thanks again to DJA for taking the trouble of sending out the current crossword. Does anyone know how far back the Speccy store of crosswords goes, if I subscribe? pre-2007 (number 1833 or earlier)?
On https://www.exacteditions.com the crossword hoard goes back to No 1735 (Oct 2005)
Hi all, I'm new to this site, and new to The Spectator crosswords (I'm hopeless).I'd be grateful if somoeone could explain how this site works. There seems to be an email, maybe a copy of the crosswor that is sent out? thank you.
