My daughter timing chain is rattling and banging but the engine still runs. Could this be the tensioner has dropped off. Is this still an engine out job?

I meant the cars chain,
What engine does it have?

I'm no expert, but I don't think Fiestas have chain driven camshafts.

I have an old 1.3 with the Endura engine, and that has pushrods.

I believe later engines have belts.
As above... by memory fiestas have had the following engines in their 30 year production....

Kent
Endura
Endure-e
CHV
Zetec
Zetec-se
Duratec

And that's just the petrol ones, so it's a little hard to answer from just the description "fiesta"
I'm sure you mean the tappets John!
If it is the tappets, then that certainly is not an 'engine out' job.
Dowe presume this to be the TDCI egine ...?

Defineatley a chain, I can see it now and the bits of a plastic tensioner. The engine is an Endura. A mechanic has removed the gearbox and can now do the chain. A garage with the facilities would remove this engine and do the job on the bench. Found all this out after I posted the question but thanks for the replies, it's now halfway to being done.
..the 'old' J series engine - the Endura that just kept on going !

I've replaced the timing set bfore on one of these although it was the J3 from 1987 - in situ. Good that you're on it - well done.

Thanks Harley, it's still in bits as the mechanic was away for the weekend. Hope the engine is as good as you say although I'm not impressed with the tensioner being made of plastic!
