Further to my previous threads. My letters still keep jumping about on screen, I lose text when I am typing, I get text highlighted for no reason, web pages open up without me clicking on the touchpad and now my laptop is running really slow. I am NOT touching the touchpad when I type. I had a new hard drive fitted a couple of weeks ago and these problems have started immediately since then. I have found that the above Service Pack just won't install. Error KB976932 and it's not something I can update myself as I'm not technical at all. Would this be the problem? Is it necessary to have this update?

It's best to have it....

You can download it and install it yourself from here..

If you have a 64bit version of windows you want
windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe

And for a 32bit version of windows you want
windows6.1-KB976932-X86.exe
Have you downloaded and run malwarebytes?
http://www.malwarebytes.org/

What anti-malware do you use, if any?

Mark I am using Microsoft Security Essentials which I have always used, never had any probs before I had a new harddrive installed. If I should install malwarebytes, should I uninstall MSE? Thanks
To find out of you have 64bit or 32bit windows right click on the word computer on the start menu and select properties.

And no, don't uninstall MSE before installing malwarebytes, they live fine together, they are for different things.

Do make sure you download the free version of malwarebytes and be careful to click "decline" when offered the trial of the full version when you install it.

Thanks chuck, I looked up the model of the laptop and its 64bits, I presume the new hard drive is the same ... I will have a go now. Watch this space !
> I looked up the model of the laptop and its 64-bit

That means that it's *likely* to have 64-bit Windows installed, but by no means certain. Do what CF asked...

OK I have installed malware and now I get this page - which should I download ?

see 13:51 post....
> I have installed malware

I hope you haven't but, rather, have installed malwarebytes... :-) Installing it won't do anything - you have to run it so that it can scan your machine's hard drive(s) for malware...

windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe

Chuck when I use this link I get a list of web pages. I click on the top one and than get a list of downloads. Sorry ! Help !
I don't understand what your are saying... if you click on the link in my fist post you should get a page that looks like below... click on the large "DOWNLOAD" button for the highlighted file.

(although do what MR says first and do a scan with malware bytes... let that finish and remove anything it finds, then deal with the service pack)
Question Author
Thanks chuck, that's the page. Wasn't sure what to download, will try it now.

Hi chuck, I downloaded what you said, it took around half an hour. But I still have the same problem. Failed to update Service Pack, also 8024200D unknown error and nothing has changed .... still getting all the same problems.
> still getting all the same problems.

Did the malwarebytes scan shed any light on this...?
Question Author
malwarebytes said all OK when I scanned. Chuck after waiting half an hour got a window saying software incompatible with my laptop.
