I have a ground floor council flat which l moved into in 1995 the flat above myself was council owned
However, they purchased this from the council and was re sold twice since then. However the new people
Are saying part of the front lawn is there is l was told from council it was mine, have planted shrubs etc, and maintained this area.
I have contacted the council about the boundary area after a month of waiting l have today received email saying the boundary appears to be different for my flat to all others in road.
I have confirmation in writing saying it is my boundary.
It would appear since flats built in 1950 somewhere along the line someone has slipped up and my boundary area has been allocated to the above flat. What can l do?
In addition, l heard that if you maintained the area for over seven years (I have done so for 17 years) and know one comes forward to claim it becomes mine?

It will only belong to the Council if they did not include it in the area they sold off when they sold the first floor flat. The Council need to give you a plan showing the actual boundary - or you could get one online from the land registry site. The land clearly does not belong to you as you are renting. Squatters rights give you possession of the land after 12 years.

If the Council has sold it with the first floor flat there is probably nothing you can do, but you could contact your local Councillor & ask them to take it up with the officials.
Themas thank you for your reply it has been most helpful l am thinking of buying my flat and have written confirmation in 1995 of my boundry area as l wanted to put fence up at that time however I think since the council tenent bought their flat in 1999/2000 the council have allowed my area of land to be included into the flat above me. Since thy bought their flat it has been resold 3 times in total and no one has ever claimed it was there land in 17 years that l have lived here. Once again many thanks for your answer
