Can you have a blood clot which just appears as a painful swelling with no redness?
My husband has a swelling to the left of the right kneecap, approx 4cm. He went to the GP today who said he didn't think it was a clot. I am worried though as my husband is disabled so can't really use that leg. I've just googled online and I saw a pic of a similar image.
Do you think it's worth going to A and E tonight? Thanks
to be honest, no, not if he's already seen his GP (unless the GP himself is a clot). If it's getting worse, or more painful or something, it might be worth it; but does it really seem like an emergency?
The swelling is more 'shapely'. He is resting his legs on a stool now. I just don't like the "I don't think it's a blood clot", I want more of a "No, it's definitely not a blood clot".
I know nothing about blood clots, I need to know if you can have them without redness or if anyone has had one in the location?
The dangerous blood clots are those in an artery or a vein, however, the vast majority of blood clots are not in that category..e.g bruises, swellings after bumping one's head etc.
From what you have described, it is extremely ....extremely unlikely that this is a blood clot of the dangerous kind and it should settle without treatment.
He's still the same. He never bothered going to A and E. The swelling is about the same size but just as painful, if not worse. He'll go back to the GP beginning of next week as he's been prescribed Ibuprofen gel which doesn't seem to be helping at all.
