Two VW Golf questions - lock problem, model No. question
2 Answers
This is a weird one, we have a 1.6 Golf FSI registered September 2007. One of the rear electric door locks has stopped working. First of all it worked intermittently ie you could give the door a wallop and it would start working again, then it was permanently locked, now it won't lock at all. This is since my other half took the door off and tried to repair the lock. We initially thought it might be a crack in the solder on the lock mechanism as this has been widely reported on the web. But the solder is actually covered with a resin on our lock. So we gather VW must have tried to sort the problem out. We've no idea what the problem can be, but have a suspicion it might possibly be a micro switch. So before we try the scrap yards for a replacement lock, I thought I'd ask if anyone else here had any ideas as to why the lock is malfunctioning. We simply can't afford to pay a deal a garage a fortune to repair it. Times are hard :-) Also, this seems crazy but we're not sure whether our car is a mark V or a Mark VI - different websites say different things for the 2007 September reg. Thank you all so much.

Hubby took another swing at the job and for the moment, it seems to be working. But we said that last time ;-) I'll pass on your info in case we try the door in the morning and end up being back to square one. Many thanks for taking the time to reply. You've got to love WD40 haven't you. It really is one of the handiest things to have around.
