On entering we had to shake hands with all the dignitaries, and for that all us ladies had to wear gloves, these dignitaries all sported what looked like Jim'll fix it badges round their necks. The up side was it was a 9 course dinner, so if you want an evening of serious eating, I'd say go.
lil - i am going to a ladies night aswell soon, have been once before and as other post have stated its a weird weird thing lol! WEIRD! lol!
but anyway i am just wearing a nice black dress with black shoes. Last time most women were in dresses, some VERY OTT but other just dressed nicely.
Wear something that you are comfortable in but dressy!

I hope i'm not too late, if you've already been I hope you enjoyed yourself.
Quite simply don't worry about it, if you're not enjoying yourself then kick your partner. Ladies nights are about thanking the partners and wives of the masons, it's a night to honour that special person in their lives and to thank them for putting up with us. Most of the posts on here make pretty sad reading, i've been to quite a few and I really don't recognise most of the descriptions. Some have been quite dull but most have been a real laugh.
Wear something nice that you're confortable in, maybe even ask your partner to splash out on a new outfit, I know my wife does every time 'just in case' !! Yes there will be some old foggies in their nylon dresses and some done up like a dog's dinner but they're all out to have a good time.
Above all enjoy yourself.

Well i disagree on all levels...i was one to think this isnt for me, im not a ball gown woman but im converted. Stop burning your bra's women. I am 35 a working police officer and in no way a shy wall flower. I love the attention, an excuse to put on a dress. Go out enjoy the food and wine. I admit its strange when they do there toasts but its tradition which during these days get to easily lost. We are past the ages of sexism but come on lets not worry too much. Chose what u want to wear and just go for the experience, be yourself and be there for your boyfriend. Have fun.
Ladies, you are obviously going to the wrong Ladies night, perhaps your lodge is elderly and still behave as such. I have been a mason for over 25 years and I must say our Ladies nights are good fun, we do give a speech to the Ladies but it is a bit tongue in cheek and the ladies seem to love it. I agree that some of the speeches go on for too long but unfortunately for you that is tradition and will probably will bore you again in the future. Our lodge tries to get these things out of the way pretty quickly in order that we can all get on the dance floor. The last hour is always very loud and caters for the young at heart and by the time that starts most of the older masons and their wifes have either gone into the bar or to bed. Please don't let your experience of Ladies Night's mar you, some are absolutely great. I am now a young pensioner but sometimes get mistaken for a lad in his forties, we will have to get these people to wear their glasses with their cocktail dresses.
