Thanks McFluff - can I ask as my sister has been torturing me over this switch - does the Freeview TV need to be retuned near the time 10 Oct - 24 Oct.
i think you'll get a reminder come up on your tv. i did and it said you may need to retune if your lose channels. My stayed fine and i didn't have to retune, but you may need to

it was very painless and it passed me buy really.
I had to retune all of our TV's, the telly just told us to click OK and it did it by itself, easey peasy. You would only need a box if you haven't got a freeview TV, you will also need an aeriel capable of receiving the signal, our aeriel was put up about 6 years ago and is fine, my mum and dad's one which was put up ages ago isn't.
I think that most people need two re-tunes, one at the start of the changeover and the other at the end - fourteen days apart.
Re aerials: if you get a good analogue signal now, there is no reason to expect that you will need an aerial upgrade.
Thanks for asking that question, Connemmara as I was wondering on behalf of my mother and some friends. Thanks also for the replies, fluffy, rocky and gingejbee
