DEATH TO MOLES

Not really. I would never harm them under any circumstances. I just wanted a question title that would catch attention.

Anyway, they are driving me mad at the moment. We have always had them to some extent because of where we live, in a fertile valley amongst the fields (yes we do have some valleys in Norfolk!). However, at the moment they have got beyond a joke!!

Has anybody got any fool proof remedies that will drive them away and isn't too difficult to achieve!

we have giggling squirrels. They leap from tree to tree and the dogs chase along underneath

Ps Lottie, if moles are anything like foxes, if you remove the incumbents and the food source remains, then new moles will arrive.....sorry.

But the food source never seems to get depleted Woofie, it is abundant. We have never made any attempts before to remove the moles, just let them get on with it, they may move off to the fields but they all come back again. Perhaps we just live in a very wormy, grubby area!!

Woof, if you go on my FB page and see the background picture you will see what I mean - we have no chance of the food source being depleted? That picture is from the field looking towards our house!!

Two years ago I had to remove a wheelbarrow full of soil from the lawn every time before cutting it due to moles.We have an acre of lawn surrounded by fields full of cows....cows =cow pats..cow pats = worms....worms =moles.I tried everything without success.I use two of the solar/sonic devices and push them in the lawn where the activity is.This has worked for me and we get a mole hill about once a month..most men can put up with that!I dont think it works for deaf moles though.

We have had trouble with moles in our garden for the past two months. We bought one of those sonic things but it didn't make any difference. The moles loved it!

We then called in professional mole catchers (cost us almost £100.00) who set three traps. They called back three times, at two-week intervals, to check the traps but the moles seemed to enjoy making hills all around them. The professionals called back a final time & wanted another £30.00. We declined but they left the three traps in place and said that we could keep them.

A friend had had some luck with dropping mothballs into the runs to deter them. We have now done this several times and are waiting to see what happens. Our garden is large and this is real problem.

There's an article about the current mole problem in today's Daily Telegraph and reading it makes us feel quite depressed.

DSJ, I haven't tried the humane ones yet. They are going in the flower beds. But I have two of these in the back lawn that we set on Saturday and no mole activity since . (Touches wood)!!

Someone I know buried glass milk bottles in their tunnels with a couple of inches of bottle neck protruding out of the soil. Apparently the noise of the wind whistling over the bottle neck scares them off. I was a bit sceptical, but she doesn't have moles in her garden any more!
