Virgin trains

Travelling to York from Kings Cross next Saturday, and have booked standard class. Does anyone know if I can upgrade to First at the station?

The website is vague, and so is the call centre operative, if you get my drift.

Yes, you can - there are always annoucements when I use the London weekend trains - it's a tenner x

Decent railway companies like South West Trains let you upgrade to 1st Class for just £5 per person each way for any length of journey on their network. Provided there is room, all you have to do is find your seats in 1st Class and then present your Standard Class ticket to the guard and ask for the £5 upgrade before he asks to see your ticket

I think you will find trains from Kings Cross to York are run by East Coast not Virgin

x-ray is correct ..... but you may have booked through the Virgin Trains website perhaps as they work as a ticketing agents for other lines

Ahhhh - can't find any mention of it on East Coast lines.

Our local operator allows onboard upgrade for £7 at weekends and normal excess fee during the week. Try phoning again when the shifts have changed to see if you get a different more helpful person.

You can actually upgrade on the train, just ask the train manager.

I doubt they will say no if there are seats spare in First Class as they want every penny they can get like all businesses. Bon voyage
