When we make a cherry cake, we find that the cherries tend to go to the middle or bottom of the cake.

Would somebody remind me what you're supposed to do to ensure the cherries stay at the top, please?

Thank you.

Turn it upside down to bake it?
Or bake two thinner ones and then place them on top of each other
Try dusting them in flour before mixing them into the cake mixture. It helps them hold in the mix rather than automaticlaly slip to the bottom until the mix sets in the oven.
Wash the goo off them and dry them in kitchen roll.
your cake mix might be ever so slightly too wet as well.
Put a cocktail stick through each one to secure them at the sides or thread very fine twine through them and dangle them from an overhead stick to support them in the location of your choice, after baking the thread would be easily removed! voilà
The best way is to roll them in flour which helps to keep them in place. However, it doesn't usually work for me! But no worries, I quite like the cherries all at the bottom- I save them and eat them last!!!
You've gotta wash them thoroughly and then dry them before you mix a little flour through them

Thanks, everybody, that's most helpful.
LOL @ ratter
I would go with the wash, dry and flour option.
