To learn.
To communicate

Cheats :-)
one poster this morning has asked 18 out of 32 questions for one x-word' does seem a tad excessive
;o)
just for the satisfaction of completing the grid. Also, as Informaniac says, to learn: people often ask not only what an answer is, but why.
I look at all the crossword postings and I love to see how the clever answerers explain why the cryptic clues provide the answers they do. I am not a total thicky but I do struggle with cryptic crosswords

Many years ago we used to have a morning DT crossword race in the office. Best time was about 15 minutes. We all stopped doing it when DT started giving answers over the phone.
You don't have to ring?

You could also do some work :-)
I struggle as long as I can and then, in order to hang on to the little sanity I have left, I ask you lot. X and bless you, you always come up with the goods
didn't someone else post something similar the other day. I ask for help because i want to keep what remains of my hair.
Slightly off the point but I do wish some posters would show some etiquette and at least acknowledge replies.
i usually say thank you,
As do many others em10, but there are Posters who ignore that simple courtesy.
there are some who ask for help with the whole crossword, that is taking things a bit far.
Can't understand it either, you are only cheating yourself. Even worse is when they don't put it in the crossword category.
The point is Mc that sometimes an answer just eludes you and being an avid puzzler you have to know the answer...So the best place to ask is among on- line friends and fellow puzzlers, where hopefully no-one treats you like a thicko or takes the proverbial. It's not cheating, I bet most people that complete crosswords don't even send them in.

Do you do crossword Mc ?
i never send them in, no point, but some crosswords can absorb you for a while, and for those hard to understand clues, there are fellow ABers, or other internet sites for help. It's not cheating, it's asking for help.
