I am currently watching someone, who has never harmed anyone, die a slow, distressing, and horrendously cruel death. How does that equate with a compassionate God?

Truthabounds, //Our first parents were given everything good as a start. All that was required for such to continue was obedience to God, but Adam and Eve chose to pursue independence from God. //

But if God is omniscient, logically you can’t get past the fact that he knew exactly what would happen before he put his plan into effect.

And please stop quoting biblical verses. It's a waste of time and space. They mean nothing to those who don't believe as you do.

Lightbulb, again, God is omniscient so why does he need to test people when he already knows the outcome? Unless he has a bit of a spiteful streak, it makes no sense.
TruthAbounds //... even though many terrible things have been done in the name of God or of Christ, there is nothing in the Bible to suggest that either of them has ever approved of such actions. God and Christ have nothing to do with those who claim to serve them but who cheat and swindle, kill and plunder, and do many other things that cause human suffering. //

Rubbish. The Hebrew genocide as Joshua and his followers invaded the Promised Land killing everyone including the babies was done in the name of God. They then treated the box of gold and silver they plundered as deified object.

Only a person of sick and twisted mind could fail to see this hideous example of primitive self serving violence for what it truly is.
//That isn't true. He simply doesn’t.//

it is if you believe in an afterlife.
Question Author
We're not talking about an afterlife - we're talking about the horrendous pain and suffering people endure in this life. As I said, sensible people don't live their lives waiting to die.
yes, but muslims believe this life is a test. The more you suffer or endure, the greater the reward in the next life. Yes, you may not believe that and by all means youre entitled to think that that it is rubbish, but there are around 3 billion people ( that includes christians and muslims) and there are probably more that do believe in an afterlife.
Question Author
//there are probably more that do believe in an afterlife. //

And your point is ....?
i meant more as in more than christians and muslims together. so maybe more than the 3 billion number i estimated. My point is that it is a belief, and people do believe in it.
Question Author
We know people believe in it. That doesn't mean it makes sense.
of course it doesn't make sense to you. You don't believe it.
Question Author
No, I don't. I have no reason to believe it.
ok than. good for you.
Question Author
^^Good argument. ;o)
not trying to have one.
Question Author
Lightbulb, I've told you elsewhere, an 'argument' does not necessarily equate to a 'row'. When people talk about 'arguments' here, they mean opposing opinions that generate debate.
ah, ok.
