Pierced ears

How old do thing children should be before they get their ears pierced? Is there a law dictating this?

I've just seen one of our client's daughter with her ears pierced- she's all of about 13 months old (I remember her having her first birthday about 5 or 6 weeks ago).

Now, I know that there are a million worse things a parent could do to their child, but this just horrifies me.

Does anyone think it's OK?

I don't like it, much too young I think. It should be when they are old enough to decide.

I think it's cheap and tacky. I wouldn't let my daughter do it until she was nearly 18.

I was 12 when my mum gave in to my whining about getting it done. I wanted to wear all sorts of cheap and nasty fashion earrings.

I just can't see why small children need to have it done.

My four year old is angling to have it done but I have told her there is no chance. Not sure when (if) we will let the girls get it done. Himself is adamant that the boys won't be getting theirs done.

My daughter always wanted hers done at an early age but as she born in Spain but British I told her is was against our law, I have used this excuse for many things during her growing up!!

I think it looks so cheap and nasty to see tiny little grls with their ears pierced. And (although I know this is sexist), even worse to see little boys with them done. It just screams out "my parents are chavs" if you ask me. Sorry if that offends anyone - its just my opinion.
