We are using 1&1 to create a website for our running club. I can't find how to upload pdf files to the site - has anyone any simple instructions on how I can do this? Thanks in anticipation

What tool are you using to build the site?
Are you using a tool provided by 1&1 are are you using an external product like Dreamweaver or Front Page?
How are you uploading the other web files to your site?
Most people use an FTP product like Wise-FTP or Cute-FTP (FTP stand for File Transfer Protocol)

We are just using the tools provided by 1&1 - whatever they may be - you just select your template and input whatever you want. We have only copied and pasted word files so far. There must be something to allow the import of other files - pictures etc - but I can't seem to find it at the moment. Sorry to appear dense - it's probably supposed to be foolproof!
Uploading files to your web site is usually done with an FTP client, products like Wise-FTP and others.
My guess is you are using the 1&1 site to build your web site, and that does the uploading as well.
So if you want to upload other files like pdf you will need to install an FTP client.
If you are with 1&1 (like I am) then they sent me a CD with a load of products on it, and one of them was Wise-FTP.

Basically you install the FTP client then open it and get a screen like below. The large box on the left is the files on your PC, the large box on the right is the files on your web site.

First you need to connect to your web site usng the info 1&1 gave you (account number, password etc)
Then you need to position yourself in the left window so you see the pdf file, then you need to position yourself in the right window where you want the file to go.
Then you can either drag and drop or select an option like upload (each product varies). The file should then be uploaded to your web site.
It may sound complex but it is very easy. The only thing you need to be sure of is that you upload the pdf file into the correct folder.

If you have added Word files to your site then I would guess you can add pdf files using the same method (copy and paste?)
Personally I dont think it is a good idea to add Word files to a web site, for three main reasons.
1) The files are rather large and can take a long time to download. PDF files are smaller
2) Not everyone has Word and it is going to be annoying for those people without Word to get one of these file.
3) Word files can be changed, which you may not want people to do. It is a lot harder to change PDF files.
It is very easy to convert a Word document to a PDF file usng a free converter. Then anyone can download the free PDF viewer to see them.
Here is a free product that will convert Word into PDF format very easily.

I use 1&1 and have successfully loaded graphics with WebBuilding (not plus version). When in edit mode select Content | Pictures or find the picture icon. Note that you can also put in a web link (I've created links to Google maps - works great). In the past, I've loaded a pdf; I'm trying to load one now and can't remember how. BTW, they have a special WebBuiler "My Website Support Team" based in USA at 866-289-5039. Better tool support than Tech Support.
