Driving to work it was really foggy I was surprsied at how many drivers hadnt put their lights on, not even sidelights! Surely there is a law stating that you must have headlights on when it is foggy

What I find strange is, when it's foggy people don't put on their fog lights, but when there is not a scrap of fog about, people insist on having their fog lights ON.

I always buy cars with fog lghts fitted, mainly so that others can see me, to drive in fog without lights is imo plain stupid.

Front fog lights are not for other people to see you, they are to help you see in really thick pea souper fog. They are virtually never needed.

Rear fog lights should only be used when visiblity is less than 100m.

However Lozzer is right dipped lights should be used in fog.

I worry that new cars now have daytime running lights. These do not seem to turn on the rear lights, but many will assume they are sufficient in fog.

I once asked a driver..yes it was a lady as it happened, why she didn't use her lights more often..."because it will use up my battery..!" was the answer..mmm...
