I have a feeling of great sadness as more and more is revealed about the likes of Jimmy Savile and Lance Armstrong. How many families will be ditching the once cherished "Jim Fixit" badges? How many beneficiaries of charitable donations will wonder if they should feel soiled? I followed the racing career of Lance Armstrong and read his book 'It's not about the bike' and found it truly inspirational to the extent that over the years I have recommended it to cancer sufferers as an example of determination winning against adversity. Am interested in fellow AB'ers thoughts.

I might have worded my last post a bit better. I regard all the crimes that Savile was accused of, and pedophilia, as equally bad.
cazz

that would make a difference - i haven't seen anything of that.

Unusual if it is so - it contradicts the nature of his other alleged offences
in the bottom of the blue article it mentions the allegation

Oh what a surprise! To be honest, I was just surprised it was girls, and not boys, when these people came out with the allegations against Saville.

Mick-Talbot - Why do you keep going on about Michael Jackson? It's dead and buried now. He was found not guilty, so why can't you just accept that and move on? I'm just curious.

How?
<all the crimes that Savile was accused of, and pedophilia, as equally bad. >

I agree thay are all 'bad' sandy but equally?

A mature man attracted to a physically developed 16 year old girl is not uncommon or necessarily frowned upon in the world.

With a physically developed 15 year old - disapproved of
With a physically developed 14 year old - more so

But being sexually attracted to a 9 year old? or a 2 year old?

I think we are in different territory there.
Im guessing the reason jackson isnt treated in the same light is because he was cleared http://news.bbc.co.uk...rtainment/4604027.stm
Bluestone

It is uncommon for men attracted to pre-pubescent boys to also be attracted to post-pubescent females.

Unless the two different types of offence were committed in very different phases of his life

Oh, ok. Well thanks for clearing that one up. It's not really something I know much about.

IMO based on everything I have read about him, he was a sick pervert and I never tire of telling anyone so .....

Simple one to start with, Bluestone.
Why did he keep two books of pictures of young nude boys?

I have no idea, perhaps you can enlighten me?

I disagree, Caz. There was thousands and thousands of Jackson fans on the streets before the case and during the case carrying placards and screaming "Micheal is innocent"

How did they know?
I would find it very suss if a grown man asked my permission to share a bed with my son, alarm bells would be ringing..

Fair enough.

He's not around to answer these questions, Mick-Talbot. But if he was, I'm sure he'd be happy to sit down with you and talk it through.
How on earth can I answer that question?
He was found not guilty, but perhaps you know something the rest of us don't...?
M-T......I understand what you are saying about MJ, but every time a thread about 'potential' child-abuse is raised on AnswerBank, it gets de-railed and ends up in a polarised thread of opinion about Michael Jackson.

There are other abusers who ought to be discussed, too.
I'm concerned about how all of this will effect the great work that happens at Stoke Mandeville. I've seen hit first hand and it's a life changer, but it still needs money coming up. Will people be reluctant to help now?

Also, I heard on the radio that someone claims to have witnessed Savile sexually abuse a child who had brain damage. If I believed in hell, I'd say the people who stood by and did nothing while watching that happen will be meeting Savile there one day. It turns my stomach.
