ive been on blood pressure tablets for a few yrs now ramipril and just recently amlopidine i recently say a locum doctor who asked me why it had never been looked into as to why i have high blood pressure i didnt know why neither i have been repeatedly telling the doctor and nurse who checked my blood pressure that i really didnt think it was as high as what it was when i go doctors as i do get really nervous when attending doctors so i brought myself a blood pressure machine and monitored it 3 times an day for 3 weekstook the results to doctor last night and lo and behold he took me off all my medication as the readings were all around 118/69 with a pulse off 66 now yes this is with medication inside me so now i have to monitor myself again for a month with taking the tablets why oh why was this not done at the beginning its cost me a fortune in prescriptions not to say what it may have done to my liver or kidneys i am over the moon that i have come off the tablets lets hope it doesnt go shoot up when the tablets leave my system thoughts please ?

God almighty....you BP has been brought under control with drugs.....so what has the locum done.........stopped them.

Perhaps you have white coat syndrome.

Your BP goes up when you see a doctor.

hopkirk spot on with your answer thats exactly what i was saying when in doctors my bp is 163/90 come home take it its 118/69 or there abouts ok the medication has got it down to that but the 163/90 is not a true reading hence now im coming off tablets i am thinking it will be in the preferred range of around 120/70 0r 130/80 white coat syndrome has alot to answer for .

tezmand we are all getting excited here.

Firstly....I am not a great believer in the "white Coat Syndrome" ...if it does exist it is over diagnosed in my opinion.

Secondly your BP was perfectly normal on that simple regime, which has now been stopped. Quite a gamble and i hope it works.

I questioned my doctor exactly the same as you as mine is always spot on at 6 monthly checks - 118/73 last time with a combined dose of Amlodopine in morning and Ramipril at night. At the time that my BP was high three years ago I was going through a family crisis when I wore the 24 hour monitor, and my BP was even high during the night. My doctor now says keep on them as they are keeping it under control, so, like you, although I would like NOT to take any, I feel they must be doing me good. Why do you think they are doing damage to liver and kidneys? Maybe Sqad could answer that one for us please? Do they cause damage?

squad dont ger exited it mite put my pressure up lol i go back in a month with new readings so it cant hurt me too much i guess i was over moon when he said dont take tablets but what will be will be i guess will post my new reading in a weeks time be interesting what they are

anna 86 my comment about liver and kidneys was due to what was said to me after i had to have my blood tests to keep eye on liver and kidneys apparently the tablets can affect them after time at one point i had too much potassium when i was on 20mg ramipril they reduced it to 10mg potassium went down . we can only go by what docs tell us cant we i know nothing lol

Ann....long standing high BP can affect the kidneys, heart and to a less extent the liver.

I have seen no publications of the long term effects of Ramipril or Amlodopine on the liver, kidneys or heart.
