How to take the plunge into a whole new career.

My partner would love to make a change of career but isn't sure where to start.
He is 40 yrs old and has been a carper fitter for most of his job life since he left school.
He is very good at his trade and is very conscientious about his work,giving it 100% and he loves meeting customers and doing the best job for them.
The problem is the job is such a physically demanding job which leaves him shattered in the evenings( and the weekend sometimes)after a day of moving heavy carpets and bags of underlay around and moving furniture etc and he is aware that generally carpet fitters suffer poor health with bad knees ,backs as the years go on and so he wants to change while his health is still good and he is young enough to make the change.
he would absolutely love to work in the ambulance service in some way.
He doesn't know where to start though. Can anyone give us any advice please.

People can start as unqualified staff then (if they want to) move up to the qualifications - look on the NHS Jobs website for vacancies when they crop up.

The alternative is to go to university to study to be a paramedic. Unless he has already found an ambulance-related job and can get sponsorship into training, he'd probably have to fund that himself but there are bursaries. Here's info about that. http://www.nhscareers...rvice-team/paramedic/
