I found an email from royalmail with an attachment and have been used to banks, ups etc.. and know the scams which are usually from foreign scammers judging by the wording and phrases but was curious at whether this particular scam was uk or foreign based so i opened the email which indicated it had an attachment which i wasn't going to click on and all it said was that royal mail order 5654 has had a problem with the address and i can't remember what else.

My query is that i didn't see a tab for the attachment anywhere so my question is could this secretly have infected me just by me opening it ( I ran malwarebytes and mse soon after but nothing detected ) Or was this just a tester email to see whether my email was live?

Thanks markrae as i was somewhat worried.
I had similar emails and when I forwarded them on to report them as scam, my email bounced saying that there was a virus in the attachment.
