Banging \ Vibrating Pipes

Can any of you maybe help me as since we turned off our water to have a shower fitted the two pipes in our kitchen have constantly vibrated and we have to turn on the cold water to slove it. It is worse when we use the washing machine. Can anyone help???

it looks like you have air in the pipes,you need to bleed the pipes,either yourselves or get a plumber in.

I've had air locks in the pipes before and solved it by just running the taps for a while, it works out a bit cheaper than a plumbers fee !

Its probably due to some work done somewhere along the main.

Think you may have high water pressure in your area! After the shower was fitted the mains tap has been opened more than it was before and the water is flowing faster thro the pipes. Try turning down the pressure ( a little at a time!!! ) Or bracket the pipes to stop the vibration.

I have answered your question already elswhere tonight but here goes again. It's called water hammer and it's a hydraulic shockwave usually caused by loose pipes moving when a tap or valve is closed quickly. To stop it you can fit a water shock absorber (this has a sprung diaphram in it) or an accumulator or replace some of the copper pipe with plastic or try to secure loose pipes.

Thanks Stanleyman will get my other half onto it this weekend. We will try bracketing the pipes first as we have tried turning down the pressure to no avail. There was some roadworks on the water pipes recently so maybe air has got in through the pipes that way. Thanks again.
