I am using AVG and recently it was updated to latest version. Each day there is a scheduled scan, and this has found five threats. See here

Clicking on the Address Issues panel brings up this list of detections

When I highlight one of the detections I am able to view details but the 'Remove selected' and 'Remove all' buttons are greyed out and cannot be activated.

I can click on 'View Details' but that is no help in removing the threats.

A somewhat elongated request - anyone know the answer please?

If I was you sir.prize I would un-install AVG and install Microsoft Security Essentials instead. Never any problems with it.
Also install Malwarebytes Free Edition as back up.
Once you have done that, run a Full Scan of your PC

Thank you for that redman. I have used Malwarebytes for over four years. It seems to keep me free of ad and malware probs. However, I see on the final AVG link I have posted that

''The file is signed with a broken digital signature, issued by: Malwarebytes.''

I don't understand that at all.

Thanks again for the Microsoft Security Essentials advice.
Sounds a bit suspicious, you may have a virus so do a Full Scan with a reputable Anti-Virus Programme.
MSE and Malwarebytes are both Free to install and have a good reputation

Thank you once more redman.
So AVG finds a possible virus, and the best suggestion is to get another anti virus product. Hardly helpful.

Like saying to someone with a puncture to buy a new car.

I notice in the second picture it says it is in folder E:\System Volume Information. This folder holds restore points.

Every so often Windows saves a lot of system files as a sort of "backup" and these are called "Restore Points".

What I think has happened is that you have had a virus on your PC, and then Windows has taken a "Restore Point" and as part of that restore point it has included a file with a virus in it.

That is why AVG is flagging it up as an error, it found the virus in the restore point, but I guess as it is a system file then Windows will not let AVG delete it.

Two solutions:

1) Go into Windows and turn off restore points. This will delete all the old restore points. Then turn restore points back on again.

or

2) Go into Disk Clean Up and select one of the options called "System Files" I think it is. Do a clean up. This will delete all the restore points except the latest.

If the latest is clean you are ok, if it also has a virus then do as in 1 above and turn off restore points then turn back on again.

Run your anti virus again.

Thanks VHG for your comprehensive explanation. It does look as though AVG is doing its job so I will give that a try and report back.
