original Star wars on now...

...Anyone watching this on ITV1 right now.Its been digitally remastered,the picture and the sound quality is superb,and of course the brilliant musical score.35 years ago 1977 when this movie first came out,can you remember where you first saw it,who you were with,any lasting impressions????

I saw it in Manchester when it was first released, queuing up for a couple of hours for several of the six times that I went to the pictures. I enjoyed it (otherwise would have only gone once), and the opening sequence where that ship appears from the top of the screen and seem to go on forever was awesome. The rest was good fun.

If you don't already know, George Lucas has taken the re-mastering as another opportunity to fiddle around with it so that there are differences from when it was first shown back then.

i'm watching the whole saga, it began with episode 1 three weeks ago, and presumably we'll have 'empire' next week and 'jedi' after that.

i am a huge fan - and i remember very clearly when it first came out i, '77 ... i was thinking that at that time, the science fiction genre was all but dead - and this George Lucas fellow had no hope of revitalising it.

oh boy - was i wrong .. what a way to cement your place in cinematic history.

Our school had a German exchange going at the time. They all wanted to go and see 'Saturday Night Fever'. I was appalled and didn't want to go. As we were queueing, a man put his arm in front of me and said, "Full up for Sat Night Fever". My friends asked me what I was going to do and I replied that I'd go in and see Star Wars on the other screen. I'd never heard of it. The stalls were practically empty, so I had a brilliant view and had an added surprise to find that Sir Alec Guinness was in it.
Afterwards, I met up with my friends and the Germans, who all said that Sat Night Fever had been rubbish. All I could say was, "You must go and see Star Wars, it was fantastic!"

Damn it, didn't realise it was on. My whole family and I went to see it when I was 6 years old in a cinema in South London somewhere. I can watch Star Wars over and over again and never get bored of it. I've still got the orignal VHS videos of the trilogy and also the digitally remastered DVDs.
