Hi there, we opened a carton of custard 6 days ago, just used a bit and then put in the refrigerator. Can we have the rest today? It says eat within three days of opening but do you think this would be okay? Thanks in advance

But the difference here is that in the custard the milk will have been boiled, so it will keep longer than fresh milk when opened. Magsmay is wrong about preservatives in ready-to-serve custard - there aren't any. They aren't needed because the product goes into the carton sterile, and the cartons prevent any spoilage for a very long time. Open the carton so you can see inside. If there is any mould on top, scoop it off with a spoon. Then eat the rest. The mould will probably be some sort of penicillin - not toxic, perhaps even good for you.
