Son let rabbit out yesterday morning while he cleaned her hutch out. She hopped round garden quite happily. Then son went out with a friend. An hour later I also had to go out with OH so checked where rabbit was and she was sat on decking, looking half asleep. Picked her up and put her on the clean hay in hutch and she went straight into the little bedroom section, which I have never ever seen her go into. So we went out.Got a call on my mobile a while later from son, crying his eyes out saying he was back home and he thinks the rabbit is dead as she wont move. Got home and checked and yes, she was dead. Son is so upset, he was so attahed to her. I just dont know what could have happened. She was perfectly fine in the morning. And she was only a couple of months old.

so to hear thaat smow. perhaps if give it a week or two and then suggest going to look at a replacement. only a suggestion.
yep foxes and bunnies do not mix. Don't be put off, Smow, go for another. Now one of my sisters, well she was a mass murderer of guinea-pigs......
There is a fox roaming our gardens at night, he comes every autumn time I've never seen him in daylight. Last year he got into next door's garden sniffing around, they had the g.daughter's hamster in a cage it was covered up overnight. Although the fox didn't get to it the poor hamster died a couple of days later. This year the fox is back again. He was in my garden around midnight last night. I think he can hear the hens at the other side of the fence. He's probably working out how to get in there.
and then the fox will just destroy them and drag a few away to bury, they're very destructive and destroy food so that their competitors can't use it,
Get yourself a goat, Smow !
Smow that was thursday that happened, (If I remember rightly), Bunny was used to your cats, I wouldn't not of thought that the stress of that 2 days earlier wouldn't have caused her to die, May be she had a weak heart and just went into shock over something, we have red kites over here. One of my young bantams died last year, she was lovely, I am sure it was due to the stress of a prey bird.
please try not to beat yourself up over it,
Smow, please don't be upset, gemma has been removed and we all feel for you and your son xxx
if any rabbit had been outside last night near me it would have been in shock from the fireworks kids were setting off in the village, my cats were terrified and had gone into hiding, a rabbit in a hutch would have been in a terrible state
So sorry to read this Smow. We had 2 lop eared bunnies as kids and they died of fright according to the vet. We have a lot of foxes roaming around and the vet decided that was the reason. It's so sad and your son must be heartbroken. I hope he is ok xx
I'm sorry to hear of your loss. If you do get another rabbit please go to a reputable breeder (not a pet superstore and definitely not from an auction) where the rabbit will have been given all its shots etc. You certainly have a good vet if he let you take the rabbit in for cremation on a Sunday (ours would have told meto put the body in the freezer and come in Monday) so maybe if you decide to get another one he may be able to point you in the right direction for a new healthy pet.
