Sorry Methyl, I have got in a tangle but I will try to explain. My laptop (Packade Bell Easynote MZ36-T-015UK) suddenly would not let me open I/E7. So after a few checks I decided to run my original XP Pro 2002 SP2 CD in the hope it would (after getting all windows updates) get back to normal again. But after installing the drivers ( as ChuckFickens kindly sent me) I still find that when requesting Windows Update, I get the message to the effect "can't open page - error 0x8024400A. My guess is that either the cd is damaged or has not loaded correctly ( I have tried it 3 or 4 times).I assume if I could get SP3 it might help. Any further help will be greatly appreciated. Again, my apologies for previous confusion. Tel

Hi Methyl, My CD is SP2 (not sure any drivers are with it as there is no sound etc)...Anyhow, it appears to load ok and I do have internet access as my PC is ok. After it is loaded I then go to Windows Update vis Control Panel and it runs a check to see if I'm legal then gives me the option to download Updates (recommended)......After about 5 seconds I get message "Unable to download etc Error 0x0824400A...................................
.
So are you suggesting I leave it in that position in the hope it may continue itself.....it doesn't seem likely. Wish I knew what error 0x0824400A was..... Over to you guys
