My son age 12 has got a friend over staying the night and I've just been informed his mother is now Vegan and they don't consume any animal products -news to me cos last time he was here him and my son consumed the best part of a kilo of homemade crispy chicken wings..however -I need a child friendly Vegan recipe to do tonight -I'm 20 mins from a Sainsbury's so can scoot down for ingredients -oh ad before anyone suggests this I've already asked him and got ' I dunno' -any suggestions please?
Mixed veg tagine; fry cubed squash, carrot, and onion fried together add veg stock, tome puree, cumin, coriander and a little chilli or paprika powder. Simmer till tender, 30 mins add tin of drained chikpeas. Serve with cous cous.
and the something for starters would be...salad? then perhaps salad ice cream (oh sorry no dairy products allowed) for dessert -and try getting an 11 year old to eat salad lol!
kiki -thanks -not sure if quorn mince is Vegan as I think it has dairy in it I have a feeling he would devour the chicken wings but can't really do that ;-)
mark -pizza has yeast in it -don't think thats Vegan -oh bloody minefield I'm getting in the car and going to sainsbury's to look for a vegan ready meal - thanks!
sounds like a form of child abuse to me. There are no child friendly vegan recipes, frankly I find this sort of forcing the parents choices on the children quite abhorrent. Get them a bargain bucket and tell him to keep schtumm!
I don't think Quorn has dairy in it, but it might I suppose. But if they object to anything with yeast in, then mycoprotein is probably a non-starter as well. You could always buy plain soya mince, which definitely is vegan.
Stir fried peppers, onion, baby corn, courgetted. Served with tomato salasa and guacamole. If you want to use cheese then you will find a vegan cheese on the cheese aisle.
Otherwise mixed med veg and tomato sauce with pasta, serve with green salad.

oh Eccles thank you so much -i missed your posts and lovely recipes -i was at Sainsbury's getting ready meal (never bought ready meal in my life) but the little monster is not only Vegan but picky. think I will try those recipes for supper for us though -they sound fab -thankyou so much for typing those out -;-))
That's very kind magsmay! If he's picky I could do a complete brain dump and then discover that he is a vegan that doesn't like veg.....not unheard of in kids! Find out what he likes and I'm happy to give you some pointers for future reference.
