I used to like it, but not any more. Its like a soap opera now - over dramatic, over acted and altogether unrealistic. But OH likes it so I've persuaded him to record it or watch the repeat so that I can either cook while its on or do something else.

Not really. Some of the acting is terrible - Hugh bonneville as lord Grantham is laughably bad. I prefer homeland on a Sunday. I love mAggie smith in it tho!

Sorry folks,I love it, the drama, the costumes, the story, the one I find boring is The Paradise but watch it for Miss Audrey's facial expressions.

1....Well, for a start Highclear House is clearly not an Abbey.

2 ....Does anybody really think that a place the size of Highclear could possible be run with 10 servants ?

3.....The familiarity between the staff and the nobs upstairs just wouldn't have happened in real life, and the very idea of a chauffeur marrying an Earls daughter would have been unheard of.

4....Some of the dialogue is risible. Last week, poor Hugh Bonneville had the misfortune to have to say " But there hasn't been a Catholic in the Crawley family since the Reformation ! "

5....Julian Fellows may have got an Oscar for "Gosford Park" but his work in Downton is almost complete rubbish.

6....The story lines would be considered daft in an episode of Grange Hill.
Are we really meant to believe that somebody that was so badly injured during WW 1 that he was completely paralysed from the waist down, could then make a miraculous recovery, within weeks ?

7....Has anybody noticed how incredibly tidy all the working class bits are ?
No horse poo ....anywhere ?

But why do I watch it ?
1....It looks marvelous.

2....Its quite well acted.

3.....Its got Maggie Smith. I would pay to see her read from the phone directory ! " What is a weekend ? "

I suppose it could be worse...they could be making a revival of Howards Way !
