dave, check with an mot station, but I have a fuzzy memory you can get it done a month before the date of first registration

Would be nice, all the builder has to do is the tiles and flooring we choose this afternoon and build a garden wall, there's no chain either way so it could be done in theory.

Yes, but we're not going to push it tony, moving in a week before Xmas could be chaos inducing, might be better to baste the bird in familiar surroundings but would be nice to have the keys to spend an odd night there though, we shall see!
