We are in France at the moment for 5 days. The weather is awful, torrential rain and now its thundering and lightening very near and very loud and we are sitting in a metal box!!
Apparently it has been raining for days and there is a lot of flooding. There is a river just the other side of a wall in the campside, owner thinks the wall will hold back the water hopefully.
Went out for a meal earlier tonight not good at all. Ordered large beer for himself and small one for me, only brought his to the table. When I eventually caught her eye and asked where mine was she made out I hadn't ordered anything.
We ordered pate for starters, she only brought OH's, When I again eventually caught her eye it was the same response, I didn't think you ordered anything.
He ordered steak - tough, I ordered duck breast both with chips, you don't get veg in France, mine tasted ok, could have been warmer, ate one half of it, the rest was uncooked, absolutely raw. When waitress came to see if we had enjoyed the meal I said it was uncooked, she had the nerve to ask if I wanted the chef to cook the last bit for me! Needless to say we didn't leave a tip!

I can never understand the snobbery (by the French) that takes place about French cooking and food. Practically all of the worst food I've ever eaten has been in France from cafe's to supposed top restaurants. Even the coffee was foul. In one restaurant I returned a bottle of wine because it was corked and the waiter had the audacity to ask me if I knew what I was talking about as I was English!

We come to France quite regularly, we are not far from Le Touquet at the moment, this is the first time we have had a complaint about the food, usually very good. The way the food was served was a bit OTT. It was on a ginormous glass plate, then a wooden plank thing, then a cast iron platter, all to no avail still half of it raw!!

No its the BBC programme that comes after match of the day, he's a bit miffed he didn't find it earlier.
Poor you! Yup, you can get bad service and bad food in France. But you never leave a tip, good or bad. Under French law the service and taxes are included, no tip is expected and there is no 'service charge' voluntary or otherwise, added to the bill, as is common here. I kept a home in France for 40 years until last year and never tipped in a restaurant nor ever saw a French person do so. You may see a few centimes left from the change, but that's all. Mind, if a tourist does not know the custom, their tip won't be refused!
