Hi
We are thinking of having a short break (5-7Days) in Iceland, can anyone tell me which is the best area to stay, just how expensive the cost of living is, the best places to visit etc. Also for a longer break(10-12) people have recommended the Italian Amelfi Coast, can anyone inform us, what are the beaches are like, places to stay and see. Any information would be great

You will enjoy italy.
Never been to Iceland but we have been to Sorrento and Capri and can recommend it, if you like nice scenery.
The Amalfi coast is stunning and the beaches are lovely. I haven't been to Iceland so I can't help you there I'm afraid.

Thanks, we went to Sardinia last year and loved it, but thought we would like to try somewhere on the mainlaind near Pompeii somewhere we want to visit, we also love the beach so if there were some decent cove type beaches it would be a bonus
Only place to stay in Iceland, really, for a short break is Reykjavik. All facilities are there and it is easy to organise trips out - both inland and at sea.

Went about six years ago - first time I'd paid £6 for a pint!; pizzas, as an example, started at £10, so it doesn't come cheap.

However you have to set that off against the scenery which is spectacular - and don't forget to visit the Blue Lagoon
Iceland is expensive. I don't think the Amalfi coast is primarily for beach breaks, more for pretty old towns and dramatic scenery. You can go for the beaches, but there are lots of cheaper places to get a swim and a tan.
