What spices are ok for babies to eat? My 8 month old has been eating solids for about 8 - 10 weeks. She still likes very soft purees, but her tastes seem to be changing, and I'm sure she wants a variety. She really likes, nutmeg, cinnamon, bay leaf and cumin, what else can I try ?

I can relate to what you're saing foxglove, as my wee dude was exactly the same...he just seemed to get bored of bland old carrots, baby rice, etc early on. You can try most things....tho of course in moderation. Try a little crushed garlic in with her pureed veggies, and any fresh herbs like oregano, parsley, coriander, basil, dill in any sauces or meals you make her. Our wee guy loved cinamon sweet potato puree, pureed white fish with dill, garlic cauliflower cheese, garlic and mushroom pasta sauce, actually, he just loves garlic. His big favourite just now is a big scoop of Boursin (garlic and herb soft cheese) stirred in to hot pasta! The more variety you give her now, the more open to new tastes and textures she'll be. My wee boy is 27months old and will eat absolutely anything and everything, so he's a joy to feed, and now eats the same as us most days. Annabel Karmels books have lots of good recipes for tots, and she uses lots of different herbs and spices, which give you some good ideas to try. Enjoy trying out new things with your bambino!! xx
His Little Lordship is nearly 6 now and like your little 'uns he desperately needed stronger flavours quite early on. He ate whatever I did from about 24 months. If I had something very hot or spicy I just added a small amount of natural yogurt to his to cool it down a bit. As he's got older I just use less yogurt than before. He really loves curry now! Isn't it a pleasure when your child isn't a fussy eater, a couple of his pals are a nightmare to feed!
nfn - LOL. We use natural yoghurt or sour cream to cool things down,. Works a treat eh?? xx

Our son eats just about anything now, although he did go off a few things. He begged me for curry when he was about 8 mths, and I like curry that brings you out in a sweat, he ate it and asked for more (only a spot mark you). Loves Brocchili at the moment and pots roasted with cheaen peper!
