What a shocking case, it would seem that no one is safe these days, even taking one's children to school.
Why one has to ask, would (what I presume was another mother) purposely take a knife to school so as to allegedly take revenge on another mother?
Please don't anyone say that "it is nothing new, and that that it has happened in the past, it is just because we get to know about it more these days".

Why not, because it is true.
Awful things like this have been happening for thousands of years. Why is it "worse" just because we get to hear about it within hours via the news.
I am reading a book about tudor times at the momnent and criminal gangs would rob people as they rode along the highways on horse back, and horse stealing was also a big problem.
People were burned at the stake for being the "wrong" religion, other people were hung drawn and quartered, others criminals had their ears and hands cut off.
And the king would chop the head of a queen if he did not like her.
So what do you expect us to do about this woman who was stabbed?
Or do you just like spreading bad news to make us all feel awful and hence spoil our day?

There is no controlling the mental processes of others to the extent that would be needed to stop this sort of incident, barring maybe a global, drug induced state of mind. These cases are awful, but it sometimes amazes me the brain works well enough for this sort of thing to be rare, or even to work well at all. Bit of a miracle really.

Blimey I always thought you to be amongst the more level headed amongst us.
Why do some have to go back hundreds and in some cases thousands of years to prove their point, when I mentioned 'in the past' and did not expect anyone to go scurrying away to consult their history books.
/// Or do you just like spreading bad news to make us all feel awful and hence spoil our day? ///
Spoil your or others day? that is far from my mind, I would hope most of us enjoy debating on AnswerBank, or do they just go on it to pick flies out of others threads?
And may I also ask a question, why do you read about Tudor times criminal gangs, would rob people as they rode along the highways on horse back, also horse stealing, people being burned at the stake, and others being hung drawn and quartered, and having their ears and hands cut off, if you don't wish to read bad news because it spoils your day?
Pick something a little more light reading, and remember you are not forced to read my posts if you consider them rather upsetting, may I suggest as an alternative, the ChatterBank site or perhaps Jokes?

what do you want to "debate" about this, exactly? Are you expecting someone to come along and defend the person who carried out the attack?
VHG's answer is entirely correct (and you wouldn't want to fall foul of the garrotting gangs in Victorial London either), and perfectly level-headed. Why do you feel it doesn't add to the discussion?

If you post wishing for a debate, then it is not helpful to attempt to frame or censor likely responses, AoG.
It is a horrible incident, all the more shocking because of the circumstances - pregnant woman, multiple stab wounds, school grounds, female attacker.
But it does not, of itself, prove the idea that our society or culture is increasingly violent or depraved. And we can see that, we can set the context, because a cursory look at any history book will show you that acts as shocking as this, if not more so, have been happening since pretty much forever, as VHG has demonstrated with their illustration from Tudor history.

stabbed by another woman apparently, revenge attack by the sound of it who knows what really goes on at the school gates, i witnessed one really vicious fight between 2 mums many years ago and that was in front of the kids as they left school, it was over a bloke of course. The woman committing the stabbing could also be a mother at the school, which is a double tragedy for the kids involved.

Simple because I reserve the right to retaliate against such comments as this, and also just as I am retaliating to your question now.
/// Or do you just like spreading bad news to make us all feel awful and hence spoil our day? ///
This poster spoke for all of you it seems by his use of the word 'us'.
But how does anyone know what makes certain people awful or even what spoils their day?
That is all I am asking, but I am now no longer being able to enjoy this site, simply because of the constant defence I have to put up, simply because of the questions I choose to ask.
So may I ask the ED if he is there, can you conduct a poll, asking whether or not AOG should remain a member, let's put it to the vote.

I am not sure anyone here is shooting the messenger AoG - people are genuinely trying to clarify the message. What point do you think this story serves to illustrate?
And If you are posting in the hope of encouraging debate, why attempt to pre-censor the likely responses?
No one should be forced to participate in stuff they no longer enjoy. But if you will post in a community forum and voice an opinion, you must expect that, whilst some people might post to agree, others will feel equally entitled to disagree, sometimes trenchantly and forthrightly.
If your enjoyment and feelings are so hurt by disagreement, then you really need to re-evaluate making postings at all....And i fail to see what a poll will serve to do, unless you are seeking some sort of personal validation through a popularity contest.
If it makes you feel any better AoG - the news forum would be a much quieter place without your posts - It would be like a derelict western town, with the tumbleweed blowing down the street :)

/// why do we have to debate it? it is a shocking and unusual event....no more, no less. ///
As I have said before you don't, no one is forcing you.
It is a news story, that will be reported on I presume, various media news outlets, and most likely discussed, so why should this site be any different?
After all isn't this the 'NEWS' section of AnsweBank?
So I will ask the question again " Why would (what I presume was another mother) purposely take a knife to school so as to allegedly take revenge on another mother"?
This is not just a simple spur of the moment attack, this was a Premeditated attack, unless of course a knife is now mandatory in a ladies handbag.
