Task Bar question

At the right hand end of my task bar, stopping just short of the sim tray, I see in faded words Program Files and a couple of >>. When I click the >> it opens a long list of Program Files. This has only recently appeared and I would like to remove it. The Program files folder is on Local Disk (C:) in any case, and I don’t need it on the task bar as well. Advice appreciated.

right click the taskbar and untick the Progs toolbar
