I have recently discovered that I am descended from this family. In 1813 the hydro-pneumatic blowpipe was invented by John Tilley, and in 1818 W. H.Tilley (my2xgreat grandfather William Henry), was manufacturing pressure lamps in Stoke Newington, and in Shoreditch in the 1830s. I have been unable to connect John with William Henry, and would be very grateful if someone could do this for me.

Hi, Dotty,
My William Henry was born in Newport Pagnell on 9th January 1809 and died in i867. His father was Thomas, who, I believe was born about 1786, and his mother was Elizabeth. In the 1851 census he was living in South Place, Hackney with Elizabeth and his granddaugter Emma, William Henry's daughter by his first wife, Rachel Payne. He died in 1858. I have made many attempts to find Thomas's background, with no success. I would love be able to make the connection between W. H.Tilley and John, the founder of the company. Much of my information was found when I Googled "Tilley Lamps" Such a surprise to see Willam Henry there!
Are you saying that your William Henry Tilley born in Newport Pagnell on 9th January 1809, is the owner of W.H.Tilley who were manufacturing pressure lamps at their works in Stoke Newington in 1818, when he was 9 years old?

Are the dates right?
