gets bandied about quite often.
What is a celebrity?
Some are famous for marrying a footballer, some are famous for being Pip Middleton, neither, imo, are celebrities.
A rather over-used word don't you think?

Yes it is ah wench, especially on I'm a celebrity get me out of here.
X Factor celebrity today, dole queue nonentity tomorrow. I agree, it is a much overused word
Completely devalued word. I would be insulted to be called one. Not that anybody would of course ...
I agree.

Surely you should actually have some sort of recognised talent before you can truly be called a celebrity.

Just because you married/slept with/went to school with a 3rd rate footballer doesn't mean we should see you on on the cover of our magazines, or be interested in your bottom.
On the other hand.....
And then of course we have the celebs in 'I'm a celebrity'

whoever told them that?
"I'm a Celeb..." really should be called "My Career is in the toilet, please make me popular".

Saying that, I do watch it with glee when these non-entities suffer and struggle.

I have so gone off that word. For example, Bette Davis, Liz Taylor famous actresses,

I'm having a semi-rant, Celebrities, someone who should be celebrated. But for what?

(Ignore me, it's Friday :-) )
I still have no idea what exactly the Kardashians (sp) "do"?

I sometimes see these celeb mags at the dentists or hairdressers. I usually only know about 3 people in them.
Go and have a bar of chocolate alba, you'll be fine then.
I agree - over-hackneyed expression that makes many of their heads expand three times from the normal.
tony - there could be murder on the cards...I am trying to avoid eating a bar and, as such, look at the chocolate thread......

Don't start me on brave and heroic when they talk about overpaid fottballers!!

Footballers, but I can be bothered to correct it :-D
Why are trying to avoid eating choc, DT ?.
Now, footballers!

Just overgrown schoolboys playing a game that most folk grow out of. How are these men "national heroes"!!!

<Ducking for cover>
"some are famous for being Pip Middleton"

How many? Won't it be confusing if they all attend the same celebrity bash?

;-)
A celeb is someone who can claim to be well known (there are different grades a-list, b-list, etc, depending on how well known or otherwise) for doing little save maybe a little entertaining: sometimes not even that.
BOO, there's the woman, that's one, and her bahookie although it got more coverage in the early days. :)

bahookie: Scots slang for bum.
