I'm watching the build up to the Karl Froch fight and, yet again, people are booing national anthems. The booing doesn't bother me in the least, mainly because I don't particularly like them, (here's a wee song about where I live and how utterly brilliant it is), but why do we persist in playing them when it gives uber-nationalists the chance to boo and denigrate another country? Same with football. If we can't repsect them, (and I struggle to do so, although I would never boo another country) then why do it?

i'd boo france.....and possibly australia just to put them off, and maybe doncaster
There is no respect for anything nowadays. The troublemakers should be rooted out and made an example of.
National anthems are supposed to be a show of pride. When the Americans sing they put their hand across their hearts (although I think this is drummed into them as children). The English one is a joke as only the first verse is ever sung which basically says the Queen/King is the only thing you should think about. People boo because ultimately everyone thinks their country is the best and some people take it too far. It's the same as booing your favourite sports teams rival.

But you miss my point; I think all pumped up shows of pride in a country, (which is, after all, an arbitralily decided political boundary), are ridiculous and unneccessary.
