I am intended to do confit duck. However, I will probably need a fair bit of duck fat to do the deed. Anyone know of a shop I can get it for a reasonable price? Yes, I know you can buy in supermarkets...but anyone know which is cheapest. Please???

Have you got any farm shops/farmers markets near you?
No idea where it is cheapest but you can keep on using it if that is any comfort. Great for roast tatties!
Errrm.... asking people to suggest a shop on an internet site is a little pointless, a cheap shop to get it that's 600miles from you won't help you much.

Personally, I either use the supermarket or local delis.
Ignore my link...its a tenner for delivery! lol Sorry. I think your local supermarket is the best bet and as Eccles says, you can re-use it.

Good point. I was hoping that someone might suggest one of the supermarkets had a special offer. We have Tesco, Sains, Aldi, Lidl, Morrisons and there is a Waitrose near my work. Oh and a Co-oper. Never thought of a farmers market. and No there isn't one near me... Many thanks indeed.

Why not roast a duck and render your own
A true confit of duck or goose is the bird cooked in its OWN FAT -non added. joint the duck or ducks leaving it on the bone (or use just legs and thighs) and pack very tightly layering with a little salt and pepper and a few herbs if you want, in a casserole dish with a lid. Butter some grease proof paper and press down tightly onto duck in casserole -don't add any water to casserole. Put lid on dish and cook for 3-4 hours at 140C then leave overnight in oven without opening door. Next day you can remove pieces of duck, put them on a wire rack and reheat in a hot 225c oven until skin is crisped up - they are even better left a few days in their own fat in the fridge. This is a recipe from my French relatives and works with goose as well.

Thanks pond. I wish I had acted on your answer sooner than I did. My local butcher had a 3K pot of duck fat for £10. They had just sold the last one on Friday, when I went in on Saturday. Sainsbury sell it in 250g pots for £2 each!! I bought 3 which was enough for the recipe. But really!!! that is a heck of a price hike. I made the confit and it was delicious.
