A question for our American Abers (I apologise in advance for my stupidity!!)

Christmas dinner is it the same as the UK Christmas dinner - turkey, stuffing, pigs in blankets etc etc?

Hubby asked me and I don't have a clue!!!

And from my great love of American sitcoms, i'd say it sounds about right.

magsmay, using frozen veg is an oddity for a traditional meal that has been running in its current style for a century or thereabouts, i.e. pre-dating freezers.

FGT, I hope you find your Christmas dinner.....and come out on top at the tables.
@ mcfluff....how weird-an aussie site telling us what Americans eat at Christmas :-0
We would have turkey and or ham usually-with both roast potatoes, and candied sweet potatoes-drizzled in melted butter, and sprinkled with brown sugar.
I know we never had a "rich, fruity Christmas pudding with brandy sauce "....but maybe others did. We always had pies-apple,mince( a full sized one),lemon meringue...my moms sozzled fruit cake...and Italian desserts like 'Struffuli' and cannoli...and pignoli-pinenut biscuits.
I remember one year a few years ago they were going through a fad of deep-frying the turkey. They had a big electronic fat fryer and the turkey went onto a two pronged thingy and was dipped right in. Lots of the news channels were showing how to do it. It looked revolting.
lol was it aussie, never noticed
Ohhh...I read about that last year...revolting is putting it mildly...lol Also looked like a lot of rather expensive kit was needed.
The current trend is to brine the bird-I know my brother did it last year...and it came out nice and moist.
Yep...made me giggle

@ Eccles

Americans have been preserving foods for hundreds of years and canning was and still is very popular -hence the TRADITIONAL recipe of green bean casserole using canned beans. IF you would like a recipe there you go:
Most of my close family live in the States and turkey and all the trimmings is what they go for at Thanksgiving. Christmas is usually baked ham or goose.
