Turkey for holidays

Don't like beaches or lazing about on holiday (do too much of that at home!), am interested in antiquities,ancient history, sites, art, that sort of thing. How is Turkey for that sort of holiday?

Turkey's great for that. Greek cities like Ephesus down the coast (and lots of less famous ones, eg Aphrodisias). Pergamon. Troy. Mount Nemrut. Cappadocia. Sanliurfa, probably the Ur that Abraham came from. Hittite sites. Everything.

oh, and they're discovering lots of stuff in Istanbul as they dig a metro line under the Bosphorus. I don't know if anything is on display, though.
