I have always thought that the name of this area could have been coined from the Roman invasion when some of the troops may have come from Umbria in Italy & saw the area as being similar to their home surroundings & so called it North Umbria, but I have never actually found anything to support this theory. Does any A/Ber have thoughts about this ?

North Humber.... denoting a person living North of the Humber. It's Anglo Saxon.

The English river Humber and the Italian region Umbria are two different places whose names have completely different etymologies. It's coincidence at best...
