It's a festival to celebrate the arriving of the Mayflower and making it through the first year re settlement and harvest - and in survinving the Indians (mixed reactions from them), the turkey being central as the wild turkey was abundant.
Today it is a day where families come together and celebrate with a family meal...no pressies, cards etc - makes a nice kick-off to Christmas. Tomorrow is the commercial day where (traditionally and also even inc the feminists), the women head for the stores and then men to watch AM football or play golf etc (in the South)......Friday is known as Black Friday as this is usually the day that the stores swing into profit for the year, part a result of the heavy trading.....

Yes it might be a great song and dance with merriment and over indulgence but all i'm saying is let's not forget it's origins, the fallen and those left behind picking up the pieces who because of the past have had their culture, traditions and civilisation as they or their forefathers once knew it torn apart and who maybe homeless, unable to find work and who would view the celebrations happening around them with a different point of view.
